Service Projects

The Kiwanis Club of Kanata-Stittsville runs several service projects to support our local communities.

Kiwanis Computers for Kids

Staples Donation to the Kiwanis Computers for Kids Program

Kiwanis Club of Kanata Kiwanis Club of Kanata-Stittsville in partnership with the Kiwanis Club of Bytown, initiated a successful project to help less privileged kids with their education and social interaction, by donating Chromebook computers. To date over 169 computers have been donated.

Here is a testimonial from the Ottawa Catholic School Board:

“Even before the COVID-19 crisis, we have long been aware that the achievement gap for students from low socio-economic status situations paralleled the digital access divide. The pandemic will pass but this initiative by our partners in the Kiwanis Clubs will have far-reaching implications for students to help achieve equity and excellence.  On behalf of our students, we are grateful for all of your efforts.”

K4K Talent Showcase

Children and Youth donate their talent and time to raise funds that can be used to support children and youth in need and at risk in our community. This is a live event, and our 2022 event will be held on October 22, more information will be posted shortly.

Children Literacy

As an organization we want to support children learning and healthy development.

The first five years of a child’s life are the most important for its long-term learning. Research has proven that children who have developed strong reading skills perform better in school and have a heathier self-image. They become life long learners.

We have a subcommittee that is reviewing future projects. Currently our project is the Books for Kids-
National Family Literacy Day book donation.

Future projects we are exploring are a Book Drive, Neighborhood book-sharing boxes, and Reading
books to children.

The club prepared two “Reading books to children” videos, the videos can be view by selecting the following links.

Books for Kids

Goal:
The week of Jan. 27, 2022 (National Family Literacy Day) we as an organization will provide free books
for children under the age of 5 yrs. to promote reading and healthy development.

How are we doing this:
In partnership with the Scholastic Books Canada and the Western Ottawa Community Resources
Centre- Early on program, we will distribute books to young children through the local food banks.

Books for Kanata Food Cupboard
Books for Youth Given to Stittsville Food Bank and Kanata Food Cupboard

The Kiwanis club of Kanata-Stittsville provided children’s book to be distributed to families at the two local food banks, in celebration of Family literacy Day January 27th.  Children who develop strong reading skills perform better in school and have a healthier  self-image.With book donations and book drives in the future it is our hope to continue to offer books.
